It has been a busy week on the project front. I opted to hold off on reaching out to my Facebook friends until I have made final decisions on my social media strategy. Instead, I spent many hours adding the page numbers which I began last week, I got feedback from three of my contributors on the look of the site, and I updated several sections of the site.
My theme is now the Winter Seasons one, and I have changed the look of my About page. I changed the title of the About page to A Woman of the Century and added both a Questions and Answers page and a Questions to Ponder page. I also made more changes to my Women of the Week page.
A very exciting find this week was learning that two of my Women of the Week were friends. As I was researching Louise Chandler Moulton on Haithi Trust, I came upon a reference to a book by Harriet Prescott Spofford. This treasure trove, A Little Book of Friends, has chapters on Moulton and several of her other friends, many of whom are in A Woman of the Century. I then updated the personal networks of both women and connected them to each other through their Item Relations fields. My next items will be the rest of the women in her book, many of whom I have come across while adding the names of women who contributed to periodicals.
I, too, am blessed to have wonderful and very talented friends. One of my contributors, an art major in college, worked diligently to help me create a more customized logo for the site. She is volunteering her expertise in this way, in addition to adding items to the site. The logo is still a work in progress, but it is coming along. I spent an hour training another of my contributors and I believe that I learned as much from the experience as she did. She had many questions and suggestions for me, and I am most grateful for her time and willingness to participate. My other contributors continue to make suggestions and work on their items. I have reached out to some more people and hope to have additional contributors soon.
Dr. Leon gave me valuable feedback on the content end, and I am working to make those changes. In addition to adding more items and working on collections, I’ll be adding details to items and creating new exhibitions. It will be a busy month, but this work is very fulfilling!
