This week, Dr. Kelly gave us the following assignment:
In this activity, continue working on conceptualizing your final project.
Select a text that you wish to use in your final project and write a very brief blog post explaining why you chose it and how you might use it.
Obviously, I will be using A Woman of the Century itself for the final project. I plan to use one woman as I teach part of the assignment, and I will be combing through her page(s) in the book to find information to put into Omeka metadata fields for her item. I’ll also download her image, crop and fix it, and put it on her Omeka item.
However, I also plan to use Harriet Prescott Spofford’s A Little Book of Friends (1916), in Haithi Trust. Spofford is one of the women in A Woman of the Century. In her book, we learn about Spofford and several of her friends, many of whom, such as Louise Chandler Moulton, are in A Woman of the Century. I will use the book to illustrate how students and other contributors can use a book by one woman to learn about her personal network and to add information to the Omeka items for her and those other people. It’s also a good example to use to illustrate what a rich resource Haithi Trust is.
