A Woman of the Century: A Crowdsourcing Project of the Nineteenth and Twenty-First Centuries

Most popular occupations for women born between 1851 and 1880

Writing continued to be the most popular occupation during the third period, but music took second place.  This may be due to the opening of a music school in Boston.  Five women were involved with education at some point during their careers, but three eventually married.  Art, Oratory, Reform (temperance and women's suffrage), law, medicine, religion/missionary work, and theatre were chosen as avenues to pursue.
