A Woman of the Century: A Crowdsourcing Project of the Nineteenth and Twenty-First Centuries is a crowdsourcing project based on A Woman of the Century, edited by Frances E. Willard and Mary A. Livermore in 1893. The editors assembled biographical sketches of 1470 accomplished and inspirational women, but Willard and Livermore did not work alone. As the title page notes, Willard and Livermore were assisted by "A Corps Of Able Contributors."
MaryKate McMaster, Ph.D., MLIS, CAGS, created this Omeka site to enhance the work of the book's earlier contributors. Like Willard and Livermore, she has gathered a team of contributors to learn about and share the lives of these remarkable nineteenth-century women. This project is creating an archive of information on these women, providing a crowdsourcing opportunity for today’s students and the public, and serving as a teaching tool on research and digital tools. It reveals connections between these women and presents a fuller picture of their fascinating lives. To learn more about the project, please view our Introductory Screencast.
We celebrate the birthdays of these woman on our Women of the Week page on the site and on our Facebook and Instagram accounts:
